From the first generation Land Rover built for the Ministry of Defense in the UK to the 2012 Land Rover LR4, owners of these mighty SUVs have always expected top performance. It doesn't matter if you are picking the kids up from violin practice or bombing across the Serengeti, a Land Rover can handle terrain that most cars can't. That is why here at Land Rover Houston North we are pleased to tell you that Jaguar Land Rover has just opened a new cold weather testing facility.
Texans in North Houston may go a long time without seeing a single flake of snow or sheet of ice across a frozen roadway, but that doesn't mean your Land Rover vehicle won't be ready. Far in the frosty reaches of Northern Minnesota in International Falls, Land Rovers are being driven in blizzards and through seven foot snow drifts.
International Falls is located right along the U.S. and Canadian border, and is one of the coldest and harshest locations in the continental states. This new testing site can reach record temperatures of -55 degrees Fahrenheit. It includes many different road surfaces and even a frozen lake to insure the best traction on ice.
This facility was built partly in an effort to help develop the new Instinctive All Wheel Drive system in Jaguar vehicles but if you head up there, you will find 2013 Range Rover models tackling the same terrain. This cold weather testing area is the brother of existing hot-weather testing grounds in Phoenix, AZ.
