When an automaker decides to pick a celebrity to endorse or a famous person to be an ambassador for the company, it needs to be certain that whomever it chooses represents the same values that are inherent in the vehicles that it produces. That is why Land Rover recently announced that they have selected world-renowned mountaineer, Kenton Cool as the luxury SUV maker's new brand ambassador.
This announcement came just on the heels of the New York Auto Show, where James Bond star Daniel Craig showed up to the red carpet in a new Range Rover Sport. So clearly our favorite British Automaker knows its way around the celebrity crowd.
Kenton Cool was selected because he represents the go-anywhere attitude that comes standard in all new Land Rover vehicles. After summiting the world's highest peaks, Cool will soon return to Mt. Everest with the goal of reaching the top and initiating the world's first Google hangout from the top of the world.
To help Kenton Cool prepare for this trip, Land Rover recently lent him and his team a brand new Range Rover Evoque to use on a training trip to Norway. Cool commented on the driving experience, by saying, "The studded tyres gripped like spilt honey does to the floor, and no amount of playing with the wheel and controls could get the car to lose traction for more than an instant. At the end of each day the team were exhausted, having climbed for hours in temperatures of -15oC. Returning to the Evoque was such a welcome sight, extremely comfortable and easily coping with four exhausted climbers loaded with ice climbing kit. It really was a site for sore eyes."1
