Any enthusiasts of Land Rover may remember 1989. That lone may ring a few bells for you. For everyone else, you should know that 1989-1990 was a big time for Land Rover. They were coming out with their then-new 1990 Range Rover and really wanted it to make a splash. How did they accomplish this? Oh, just a casual 12 days off-roading trip over some of the United States' toughest terrain.

Yes in 1989, Land Rover sent the 1990 Range Rover from Colorado to New Mexico on a trip called the Great Divide Expedition. The trip was a tough one, with more than 75% of the way unpaved or off-road. The vehicles were left to their own devices, save for special tires, roof racks, and bumper-mounted winches.

Now, it's happening again. It is the 25th anniversary of the expedition and Land Rover is sending its 2014 Range Rovers to make the trek again. One exception to the group is the recreation of the 1990 Range Rover expedition vehicle that Tread Lightly! (the original sponsor of the adventure) and Land Rover teamed up to make. The truck will be auctioned off for charity.
