If you can remember all the way back to May, then you might recall a blog post we published about the new All-Terrain Electric Research Vehicle that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. Land Rover enthusiasts everywhere welcomed the new model and recognized it as the first steps in a new greener direction for the lineup of new Land Rover vehicles. Now, that first electric vehicle is being put to work at the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK.
The Eden Project is an eco-park filled with special gardens and bio domes that are meant to teach children and adults about the importance of conservation and environmental protection. The All-Terrain Electric Research Vehicle is currently being used to pull a four-carriage road train that pulls visitors around the Eden Project facility.
The original version of this concept had a range of 50 miles, but now designers have added a second lithium-ion battery that is helping to lengthen the time in-between recharges. This special Land Rover Defender can only generate 94 horsepower but gets up to 243 lb.-ft. of torque. That makes it perfect for hauling this very heavy trolley at safe and low speeds.
Now engineers are installing a regenerative braking system that should help the vehicle to gain up to 30 kilowatts of power every time the car goes down the a hill.
