Fans of the Land Rover Brand should know by now that our favorite British automaker has developed a diesel hybrid model that was initially only going to be available on the European continent. Some very recent news tells us that plans have changed and a diesel hybrid version of the wildly popular Range Rover Sport will be showing up in the United States within the next couple of years.

Development began on this efficient new Land Rover model in part because of the changes coming to European emissions regulations. The Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards mandated that all production vehicles must achieve 54.5 miles per gallon by the year 2025. The other reason we suspect Land Rover officials changed their minds was because of the rising popularity of diesel vehicles in the United States. Thanks to increased availability, sales of diesel powered cars and SUVs grew by 24 percent between 2010 and 2012.

Naturally, we were giddy with excitement when we heard the news. Drivers in the Woodlands area will definitely be attracted by the prospect of owning a Diesel Hybrid SUV that just set the record for the fastest Pikes Peak hill climb of any production car in history. We are sure this model with be a success.

Land Rover is expected to unveil the new hybrid Range Rover Sport at this year's Frankfurt Motor show, but until then we will keep you up to date with this developing story right here on our blog.
