At the end of last month month, we were telling all you folks about how three Range Rover Hybrid models went and conquered the Silk Road. Every mountain and valley that stood in their way proved no match for these eco-friendly world-shakers, and now that our favorite automaker here at Land Rover Houston North has conquered Europe and India, it was on to the next challenge.
If you're unfamiliar with the Empty Quarter of the Arabian peninsula, it's definitely no picnic.
It's the second-largest desert on Earth, temperatures exceed 122-degrees Fahrenheit (on a good day, mind you), and in order to cross it, you have to traverse 527 miles of hell. Naturally, the brass at Land Rover decided to send professional driver Moi Torrallardona to do just that behind the wheel of a 2014 Range Rover Sport.
10 hours and 22 minutes later, a new world record was set. So the next time you feel like driving across a desert in some of the worst conditions imaginable, you know which SUV to turn to.
"Desert driving requires a unique combination of speed, finesse and technical skill. Knowing the right time to go full throttle and the right time to slow down, takes experience and clear judgment, " says Torrallardona. "This unique way of driving requires a vehicle which has the same skillset - it must be both incredibly fast but also agile, responsive and well planted. The Range Rover Sport is exactly that."1
So if you'd like to learn more about the record-breaking qualities of the 2014 Range Rover Sport, the experts in our car parts department would be happy to fill you in at our dealership here in Houston, TX. There's nothing it can't handle.
